By News Feb 15, 2021 | 9:27 AM

The Nebraska men’s basketball team almost squandered an 11-point second half lead, but held on late to win at Penn State yesterday, 62-61. It’s the first Big Ten win for the Huskers this season, and snaps their 26-game conference losing streak. The Huskers continue on the road with games tomorrow and Wednesday at Maryland.

The Husker women dropped their 4th straight game, losing at home to 9th ranked Maryland yesterday, 95-73. The Huskers are scheduled to be in Evanston, Illinois Wednesday for a game against Northwestern.

The 4th ranked Nebraska volleyball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a pair of wins at Rutgers this past weekend. The Huskers are hosting 5th ranked Minnesota this Friday and Sunday.

19th ranked Creighton pulled off the upset Saturday with a convincing 86-70 win over 5th ranked Villanova. Winners of six of their last seven, the Jays are now off until a Feb. 24th home game against DePaul. The Bluejays won their first meeting with the Blue Demons in Chicago, 69-62.

The UNK volleyball team lost to 4th-ranked Metro State in four sets (-17, -19, 22-25, -18) Saturday afternoon in Denver. The Lopers begins MIAA play this Sunday in Hays, Kan., with matches against Emporia State and Newman.

The UNK basketball teams took on the Rogers State Hillcats in Claremore, Oklahoma Saturday. The Hillcats topped the UNK men, 73-61. The No. 13/15 UNK women dominated Rogers State, 85-52, to remain in a three-way tie for 1st place in the conference standings with Fort Hays State and Central Missouri. The Loper basketball teams host Central Missouri this Thursday.

The Tri-City Storm split their two game series at Waterloo, falling 5-4 Saturday, but winning 2-0 yesterday. Friday’s game in Des Moines was postponed due to COVID concerns. The Storm open an 8-game homestand Friday with a game against the Lincoln Stars.
