KGFW Sports – NU Tix Renewals, Legion Tryouts Monday and Usman Still Waiting

By News May 29, 2020 | 6:33 AM

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming football season, Nebraska season ticket renewals are said to be well over 90 percent. That’s compared to about 96 percent last season. Although there are still questions about the Husker’s schedule and possible game attendance restrictions this season Athletic Director Bill Moos recently said he believes each institution, and not conferences or the NCAA, will ultimately decide how many fans can be in the stadium. Moos also said Husker officials continue to be prepared for a number of different scenarios. By comparison, Iowa athletic director Gary Barta told reporters on Thursday that the Hawkeyes had sold 75 percent of their 48,000 season tickets. The Kearney Legion baseball program will begin holding tryouts Monday. During a Zoom meeting Tuesday Runza Seniors head coach Brad Archer said 64 players have preregistered, a comparable number to the past few years. As in previous years, the Legion program will be fielding four teams. The Runza Seniors schedule includes 36-games with home-and-home doubleheaders against the Cornhusker League West Division foes — North Platte, Hastings, Grand Island Home Federal, Norfolk and Columbus. The Post 52 Juniors are planning to play 40-games. The Jersey’s Seniors and Five Points Juniors schedule has not been finalized. The Kearney Legion baseball season will begin June 18th and end July 31st. Due to current restrictions attendance at games at Kearney’s Memorial Field will be limited to immediate family members.

UFC president Dana White told ESPN on Thursday that he has not talked with Conor McGregor about his next fight. White said he has not seriously discussed McGregor’s next move but implied he still prefers for him to face the winner of an expected lightweight unification bout between Justin Gaethje and undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor is coming off a 40-second knockout victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in January. That fight was contested at 170 pounds. The UFC’s current 170-pound welterweight champion, former Loper Kamaru Usman, recently told ESPN he’d extend a title shot to McGregor at that weight. But White said Usman will not be McGregor’s next opponent. McGregor has “accepted” everything from a boxing match against retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya to a superfight against MMA legend Anderson Silva in recent weeks. He’s also teased a return to the Octagon in July and singled out newly crowned interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje as a potential foe.
