A season-opening game against a conference foe and a new opponent to close the regular season on a Saturday will highlight Nebraska’s 2020 and 2021 Big Ten Conference football schedules, released Tuesday by the conference office.

Nebraska will begin the 2020 season Sept. 5th with a home game against Purdue. It will mark the first time since 2003, when Nebraska played Oklahoma State at home, that the Huskers will begin the season with a conference opponent. Another notable change, Nebraska will close the regular season against Minnesota in 2020 (Lincoln) and 2021 (Minneapolis) on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in both seasons. Nebraska coach Mike Riley said he "just likes Saturdays for football." Nebraska last closed the regular season on a Saturday in 1989, a home game against Oklahoma. In 2020, Nebraska hosts Purdue, Illinois, Penn State and Minnesota, with road games at Northwestern, Rutgers, Ohio State, Iowa and Wisconsin. Penn State’s visit to Lincoln will be its first since 2012. Nebraska’s 2021 home conference schedule includes home games with Ohio State, Northwestern, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin. Road games are at Michigan State, Purdue, Illinois and Minnesota. Michigan’s visit to Lincoln will be its first since 2012. In the first 11 seasons of Nebraska’s membership in the Big Ten Conference, Nebraska will face Ohio State more than any other East Division opponent, matching up with the Buckeyes eight times in 11 seasons. The Huskers will play Michigan State seven times, while meeting Indiana and Maryland just two times each. Nebraska has two nonconference games scheduled in 2020, meeting Cincinnati and Central Michigan in Lincoln. Nebraska has completed its 2021 nonconference schedule, with home games against Northern Illinois and Buffalo and a road game at Oklahoma. The Oklahoma game will mark the 50-year anniversary of the “Game of the Century,” a 35-31 victory by No. 1 Nebraska at No. 2 Oklahoma. It begins a two-game series with the Sooners, who will come to Lincoln in 2022. For more on the Huskers 2020-2021 Big Ten schedules visit
