reduce the number of fire related deaths and injuries

I’d like to share with you a smoke alarm safety PSA from the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency that contains some very important fire-and-life-safety information the public needs to know.

Every day, Nebraskans are at risk of succumbing to the devastating effects of fire. The death rate per 100 reported home fires was more than twice as high in homes that did not have any working smoke alarms compared to the rate in homes with working smoke alarms (1.18 deaths vs. 0.53 deaths per 100 fires).

Three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms (38%) or no working smoke alarms (21%) (NFPA).

The goal of this PSA, ‘Is It All Just Smoke and Mirrors?” is to reduce the number of fire related deaths and injuries in home fires.

Please help us raise public awareness about the need to have working smoke alarms: understanding the types, placement and maintenance.
