KGFW Sports – Shrine Game Staying in Kearney

The Nebraska Shrine Bowl football game is staying in Kearney. On Monday the event’s Board of Directors confirmed that Kearney was selected to host the game for the next five years. Kearney, and UNK’s Ron and Carol Cope Stadium, have played host to the Nebraska Shrine Bowl for five years straight. The Nebraska Shrine Bowl has annually donated more than $2M to Shriners Hospitals for Children since its inception in 1958. As of 2018, the South leads the all-time series with 30 wins, the North has 27 wins, and there have been 3 ties. Notable alumni include Nebraska football coaches, Scott Frost and Barrett Ruud, NFL Hall of Famer Gale Sayers, Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Rodgers and Eric Crouch, and All-Americans Zach Wiegert, Danny Noonan, Dean Steinkuhler, Dave Rimington, Jeff Kinney and Jerry Murtaugh. The 61st Annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl will be played Saturday, June 1st.
